"Firework Tree" by Allie B.

It looks like red and green fireworks to me. I took it really close up so you can't really tell what it is.

"Trees Shed?" by Elana T.

I thought that this tree shedding was quite cool because you don't see something like that everyday.

"The Flower" by Rebecca I.

I think the flower looks like a sun with clouds around it.

"It's a Face!" by Zoe N.

The trunk looks like a face. The trunck was split in about five or six individual places. They were all curved to look like a face.

"Sideways Hill" by Shira R.

To take this picture I turned the camera sideways so the hill looks tilted

Chug Interviews

The Giborei girls interviewed some of the chugs that interested them the most (besides blogging of course!) They asked some good questions for other campers and chug teachers. Here are some of the main questions they asked from each chug:

Omanut (Arts and Crafts):
Shira: What is your favorite part of Jewelry?
Talya: Making bracelets and other things.

Elana: What is the one thing everyone looks foward to in your chug?
Violet: Going home with cool jewelry.

Rebecca: Do you like ceramics?
Elana: Oh yea, it's really fun.

Elana: What do you enjoy about art?
Tina: Art is important because it helps people to relax. You focus on the art, not other problems.

Bishul (Cooking):
Allie: What is your favorite thing to make in cooking?
Talya: I like making rugelach.

Shira: What is the thing that everyone likes in cooking?
Marcy (cooking specialist): Eating!

Zoe: What is your favorite meal to cook?
Talya: Breakfast.

Elana: What are your favorite parts of cooking?
Marcy: Gathering the ingredients, cooking, mixing, and chopping.

Teva (Outdoors):
Shira: What are you going to plant in the organic garden?
Eliyhu (gardening specialist): Tomatoes, green beans, basil, lettuce, and herbs.

Allie: What are you working on right now?
Jacob: We are putting compost on the soil before we start planting.

Shira: Will the food you grow be used for cooking?
Eliyhu: It will probably be used for chug bishul.

Zoe: Were you scared the first time you went on the ropes course?
Luis (ropes course specialist): The first time I was extremely scared, and I still am!
Rebecca: What kind of equipment do you guys use for the ropes course?
Luis: We use lobster claws which keep the rope tight on the course.

The girls got a really good sense of what some of the other chugs are about, and we even got to watch some Adat Shalomers navigate the ropes course!

Favorite Camp Activities!

One of my favorite activities at camp is peulot ohel (bunk activity) because it is a time where we are together as a bunk without our edah. We usually do really fun activities and they are really fun.
-Shira R.

My favorite peulot (activity) at Ramah is sports. My sport is tennis and it is really fun because I like learning all of the different strokes. -Allie B.

My favorite activity is learning or yahadut. I like it because learning about Jewish heroes is fun. -Rebecca I.

My favorite activity is sports. I love how my volleyball morah (teacher) makes all the learning fun.
 -Elana T.

My four counselors are Danielle, Lauren, Emily, and Nina. I like them because they're really nice and they let us do a lot of things that we want to do. -Zoe N.

Sha-Sha-Shabbat Shalom!

On Friday I really like being with all my friends and praying with the whole camp. I also like seeing the whole camp singing and dancing. Before we went to pray our rosh Tamar told us a story. It was so fun. One of my counselors taught the whole edah a song. We all went to pray and we held hands. After praying we went to eat. -Shira R.

The only thing I liked about Shabbat was the yummy food. I really liked the chicken, broccoli, and noodle soup, yum! -Elana T.

I liked getting my Shabbat-o-gram because in the beginning I didn't know that we were getting anything but then my counselor Emily handed me a plastic popcorn container with a little note about myself. They call me the dancing queen. Inside the popcorn thing there was about eight pieces of candy. It was great.  -Zoe N.

Yesterday and the night before was shabbat. I took a shower and got dressed in nice clothes. The prayers were long, but dinner was really good. -Rebecca I.

Shabbat was really good this week. The food we had on Friday night was the best part. The soup was really good. I also liked going to the service because it was fun. I really liked just getting the chance to rest. Also, Havdallah was nice and so was all the free time. Me and three of my friends went to the Whizin field and went grass boarding. It was fun. -Allie B.

Interview with Moshe Sharett

The Giborei girls had a practice interview with Moshe Sharett, the second prime minister of Israel. This interview helped the girls understand how it takes more than just asking questions to get more information. An interview also takes research (before and after). Research is important to verify information and get the best answers possible.

Zoe: When and where were you born?

Moshe: October 15th, 1894; in the Kherson Russian Empire.

Allie: What declaration of Independence did you sign?

Moshe: The Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948.

Shira: How many kids did you have?

Moshe: Three kids.

Elana: Did you ever move?

Moshe: Yes, I moved to Jaffa in 1910, and my family became one of the founding families of Tel Aviv.

Rebecca: What job did you have?

Moshe: I was first the secretary of the Jewish Agencies Political Department until World War I.

Zoe and Shira: What did you study?

Moshe: I studied law at Istanbul University, the same college that David Ben Gurion (Israel's first prime minister) attended.

Although Moshe died in 1965 when he was 70 years old, he is still remembered by appearing on the 20 Israeli shekel banknote. Also, his son Yakov founded an institute to remember his heritage.
